well i am only 16 but i have a winchester model 70 300 wsm and the recoil is not as bad as my dads 7mm mag.the gun comes whit a vary soft pad in the back that takes most of it in.and yes the gun has a good range and lots of power.the only think i think you will have to get is a beter scope and that is about it.
