Default Home Defense bullet choice?

I have always loaded 240gr XTP's for my home defense round for my 44mag. But was thinking this is more of a hunting bullet. I have killed a few deer with them. So I loaded up some Speer gold. Looks real mean, just wonder if this is a good bullet choice. Maybe looking at some barnes or something. I guess anything will do.

The XTP's give me 2" groups with 23.5gr of H110 Cruising at 1450fps at 25 yards. Wanted something that could punch thru walls, since I live out in nowhere by myself.

If you want something to go through walls then the higher grained XTP's and GD's are a good choice, plenty of penetration.

8mm, thats not what I am really looking for. Don't want to have to operate a shotgun when I am all groggy and just woken up. I am looking for good bullets that are proven home defense. I used to be a federal hydroshok nut, but since reloading so much, I haven't shot them in years. I don't think you can buy them either as components.

For home defense wouldn't you want something pretty soft? I mean, a 44 mag at house distances is going to get plenty of penetration on a human....so wouldn't you be interested in something that is going to enter and deform pretty violently dumping all its energy IN the body rather than exiting and traveling around the house? A pure lead slug would probably exit anyway from a .44 mag at distances of 25 feet or less.

Well maybe. I was just wondering what kinda of great new bullets are out there. I have reloaded this combo for 10 years or so and figured I would get caught up on whats the ultimate pistol bullet these day you can reload.

BC Back when my wife and I first got married we had 2 rottweilers that slept on the floor in front of the bed. I have never slept better in my whole life.

With the two rotties by the bed the only need for a weapon would be for a mercy shot to end the invaders suffering!

There would have been no survivors if my "Bear" the male had gotten hold of anyone. Unfortunately they both passed on now and I miss both of them terribly.
