Home Defense bullet choice?

Reason I'm asking is one, I see all the home defense loads being low velocity, like Federand and remington at 1100fps with a 240gr hollow point. My load is kicking, at almost 1500fps. Then two, I see alot of home defense loads with real light bullets. Like corbon has or the glaser slugs.
Yea, Matt, I have been accused of being a tad jumpy. When I was a kid in Eastern Ky, we had some bold people break into our house with us still there. I was about 6 at the time, and no dad, died in war. So here we are locked in my mom's bedroom with my brother, and they cut the phone lines. Then came back in a week, when we wasn't and destroyed the place hanging all these old porno pictures all over the walls with a staple gun. These break ins happened about 5 times in a 4 year period. Then they harrassed us by calling telling they were going to kill us next time. Throwing dead dogs and cats on our carport. It was pretty freaky. Things were different then and there. No such thing as tracing a call, and police are far and few between out there. Only time they came in the hollers was if someone got shot. Most didn't have telephones. We had no defenses. We were powerless. They knew it. I only saw a glimpse of em. Never reconized them. I remember to this day how I felt. I swore to never be defenseless again.

My choice is 1.5 oz of No. 2 shot ina 12-ga. If the guy is close enough to you to be dangerous, the birdshot is as deadly as any bullet. But it won't harm the neighbors!

I currently dont own a handgun, but plan on getting either a .44 magnum Redhawk or a nice .45acp semi-auto someday. For now my home defense weapon is a Mossberg 835 ulti-mag with a xtra full turkey choke and a box of 3 1/2 inch number 6's. That should do the job on anyone stupid enough to try to hurt me or my fiance.

I have my Security six 357 loaded with my 'splat ammo', soft lead hollow points (158gr) and a medium charge of powder. Deadly accurate with recoil my small wife can handle these rounds won't over penetrate as they just kind of go splat when they hit anything.

Pick up an issue of any handgun magazine. I've tried to find one here and couldn't sorry. the reason I say this, is one company built what they call "The anti-terrorist round". It looks like an old juicer. You know, the domed thing with serrations or vents on it. These bullets are supposed to enter someone, and fragment instantly in all directions. Causing massive tissue damage. But will not blast far through drywall. They look pretty cool too!

Any new bullets for a .44 are geared toward hunting (Partition Gold, Barnes, etc.). It would be hard to ever see a difference between them and the XTP you currently use. As for home defense, I have read and kept up with load performance for years and all will tell you that a full house .44 mag is overpenetrative and a waste of energy. That is why your .44 defense loads will be low velocity and a lighter bullet. Just like your elk load, you want your bullet to expend its energy inside the vermin.
I use your same load for hunting but when I carry my 4 5/8" Ruger SB for backup I use the old tried and true .44 Special 200gr. Win. Silvertips. It took me a long time to accept this since I am a magnummaniac but this load is low recoil, practically no muzzle flash, and very accurate in my gun. Indoors this would be great. This is also why some of your manufacturers are rediscovering the .44 Special and chambering carry guns for it.
As for the Glasers, I have never considered them due to the high price and reports of terrible accuracy.
