The 22mag is still legal for whitetails in some states...Not too many, but I know they are in Maine for sure, and the deer there are monsters. Can't understand that logic.

Danthehunter, you need to come down off your high horse. I am not advocating the shooting of whitetail with a .22 mag, just merely sharing a story, as we all do here, about unusual/strange/unsafe practices that hunters sometimes practice during the course of their lives. I feel we're all pretty much adults here and there shouldn't be any concern of someone ready this post and running out to try their hand at rimfire whitetail hunting.

Oh man what is is not good for is the question. It is easy to crush the cases however.
1. Makes excellent turkey gun.
2. All around pest gun like the 22Mag but gives you 100 yards more.
3. Unforturnately, known to some of my family as a deer poaching gun. Quietier than a 223, and works on neck and head shots.
4. Takes down a coyote like nobodies buisness without overpower of a 223.
I really like them.

My friend I am not on any high horse . And I am sorry I offended you but I am very much against any white tail being shoot with a cartridge smaller than a .243/ 6mm. Its an ethics thing ! And I know that there are rounds smaller than that , that will kill a deer but not like the rounds mentioned above.

Dan,
Good call, but save your breath. This topic comes up periodically and rages wildly with neither side able to convince the other of much of anything. It's amazing.
I take small consolation in my contribution to the general "fly weight" discussion by just doing my little part by keeping 'em out of elk camp. Little tools for little jobs, bigger tools for bigger jobs.
Good Luck and Good Hunting,
EKM

Isn't this the weapon of choice by most poachers BC? I know of a few people in WVA that use them for that purpose , I don't condone it but they do it whether I like it or not. They even use it during legal hunting season

Your right about one thing. It is amazing. Amazing because so many people say so much stuff based off one person said another person said. And when you get down to it, most have never tried something, nor have they looked at any figures, and probably, other than hearsay, have no experience in the matter. Totally amazing.

Yea, I know some poachers that use this round for every season except gun season. Usually in Mingo county in WV, where you can't gun hunt bucks due to a mamoritorium. When I lived there, I used to try to turn them in, but little good it does.
