I would use it for both..only groundhogs for hunting! Bullet choice is not that great but fun too shoot...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

i think it will be good for groundhogs but great for squirrels, smaller the bullet less damage to the pelt. will probably be good for target and plinking as well.

Has anyone priced the ammo? Just wondering how much it is per box.

I don't know about a .17 rimfire. Yes, I know it's a necked down .22Win Mag round. The bullet is 17grains. I think I'll stick to my .22win mag with the relatively new CCI 30 grain +V bullets. If I want a .17cal bullet, I'll go to the &quot;big boy's&quot; .17cal guns and use my .17 Remington.

I tend to agree HK. The 5mm (19.6cal) failed years ago, and the 17 won't have the stuff that it did.

I just don't see it taking off...Hopefully I'm wrong.

I disagree. I think the 17 Mag Rimfire will take off. Tell ya why. American rifleman does have some good articles from time to time. But instead of being a informing magizine they were in the past, they have turned into a marketing mag a little. Hear me out before trying to hang me. American Rifleman is read more by more people than ever before. This months edition had the entire front cover devoted to this round. I bet the sells skyrocketed this month. As far as doing the same thing as the 22LR. I don't think so. My 22LR falls quick after 50yards. I can't say for sure, since I didn't do the test, but they got impressive 100 yard groups in American Rifleman. I never see people get .5&quot; groups at 100 yards with their 22LR without some work on it.

I agree with HK. Yes, the .17HRM will &quot;take off&quot;, but not because it fills any real need. It is, like Jeff Cooper said of the double-action semiauto handgun, &quot;a brilliant solution to a nonexistent problem&quot;!! It has one real drawback, as far as I'm concerned. It can't be handloaded!! Therefore unacceptable!!
