I can't understand the thought prosess of those who say they would rather use their .17 Rem. It is a totally diffrent kind of "animal" that fits a totally diffrent "job". It is like saying " I've got no use for that pipsqueek .22 long rimfire. I'm going rabbit hunting with my 220 swift, a real man's gun".
Does the .17HRM have a place? Only time will tell. If the "shooting public" buys it and ammunition sales are good it will survive. If not it will follow a long line of cartridges that have not made it.
I would like to see the 5mm rimefire make a come back. And a Ruger semi-auto like a 10/22 chambered for it.
I was just looking at an interesting .17 MACH IV centerfire round. It is a 221 Remington fireball case necked down to .17 and my Hornady manual says it will get a 25 grain hollow point up to 3700 fps.
Robin.
