bigbulls, I want peoples opinions on what they think based on thier knowlege.

If you still want a .300 mag, I would go for the .300 win mag. It uses less powder that the wby or ultra, are easier to shoot, and will still kill things dead. I shot a .300 for a while, and I can't complain about it's performance. There's only one kind of dead!

Well you never gave us any information to base a good opinion on. How can any of us give you an educated answer if you gave no information to base an educated response on? You may as well asked what's better a widget or a whatchamacallit? With out telling us anything about its intended purpose.

Like I said, they all have their place but to just pick one with out knowing what it would be used for and / or the type of hunting conditions it will be used it is not an opinion based on anything other than maybe a "cool factor" is pointless.

Besides, I gave you an opinion based on my knowledge of the three. In 99% of hunting circumstances 99% of hunters will encounter the regular 300 Win. mag will fill the bill quite nicely. Sorry, but I'm not just ganna say that the 300 ultra is better than the other two just bacause it's bigger.

As a 300Ultra owner, I have to say the Winnie. Nope, I like the RUM, shoot, I take them both.

If this is your first 300 I would suggest the 300 win mag or the 300 wsm which you didn't mention. If these don't offer enough velocity/flat trajectory and you absolutely positively have to shoot game at 500 yards then buy the 300 ultra.
