RE: 30.06 USERs
I prefer the Remington Core-Lock in 165 grain bullets. That is what my rifle really liked and produced the best results with
Same here. I found that the 165 core lokts worked best in my 30.06 too!

RE: 30.06 USERs
Prior to hunting season, I'm usually so busy with tests and school work that I don't have time to reload ammo for all of my rifles I'll be using, I make sure to reload some stout .45-70 and .44mag loads, but when it comes to my "mid bore high powers", good factory ammo is good enough (unless I've got some loads left over from the summer batches).
I rifle hunt an area that accuracy to 400yrds is pretty important, most shots I've taken over the last several years have been 100-300yrds, but you've also got to be ready for short range shots, I've only had two under 50yrds. (The rest of my short range hunting is handgunning or archery, so the .30-06 doesn't work there). I prefer to make 100yrd or less shots with my handgun, and reserve the rifle for long range work, so myammo choice is based on a range from 100-400yrds, not 0-400yrds...keep that in mind, take my advice with a grain of salt....
For accuracy, my .30-06 rifles like Winchester Supreme 150grain Balistic Silvertips...they're pretty explosive for close range shooting, but I've got a system for that, but they are AWESOME for extended range hunting 70yrds+ at least. I didn't used to worry about it, just shoot them even if they're close, but in one season I trailed two doe for over a mile and over two miles respectively, very shallow "rebound" wounds that were about 6" acrossed at the entrance, they pop like balloons when they impact at over about 2500fps or so, I've had success with everything past 70yrds, but everything closer with them has given shallow wounds with massive topical damage.
Like I said, for anything under 100yrds, I'll usually use my Ruger Super Blackhawk .44mag, so I don't have to worry about my .30-06 bullet popping on impact at ranges closer than 70yrds, I just don't shoot them that close.
For most hunters (most guys will only ever have to shoot out to 150 or 200yrds), pretty much any soft point or similar bullet weighing 150-180grns will do just fine...I only need an accuracy round because I hunt farther than average rounds allow...
I've also had awesome bullet performance from Winchester Super-X power points and pp+'s, great bullets for typical hunting ranges (0-250yrds), although they give much worse accuracy vs. the Silvertips, 3" at 100yrds in the PP+'s vs. 1.1"@150yrds with the Silvertips. My system is complicated, but it works for me, the Super-X power points would work for basically any body.
Try a few rounds on, standard hunting grade stuff with 150-165grn bullets, stick with soft points or the like mostly, don't waste your money on match grade or premium stuff, see what your rifle likes and try to fit your choice to your hunting applications.

I have worked up a 150 grain hand load I love. Before that, I went with the 150 grain remington core lock. The core lock is a pretty hot cartriage. I never had a complaint.
