.45,.45,.45.That old " punkin ball "has not been around these years for nothing.

I have a baby eagle in 9mm but the only reasons I got it was 1. The price was VERY good. 2. Its accurate on paper and bigger than my .22
But thats all it will ever be used for is paper punching, I wouldn't trust my life on it no way.

You know guys, some women can't handle a 45. For instance, my girlfriend can't pull back the slide on my colt gov. model. So she opts for the 92fs 9mm. I really want that 10mm that kimber has put out on limited issue. Now thats the man stopper of man stoppers.

Actually, the majority of us carried .357 Magnum revolvers. They are far more powerful than the 9mm.

I want to thank everyone on their input!! I have limited knowledge in the world of handguns. I do own a .22 revolver and a .44 revolver... I have been looking at the semis for a few years but nothing real serious.... I have the chance to own one so I might take it... I was just looking for outside input on it!!

To answer the question of what I will be useing it for.. mostly just plinking... nothing more...

I can't believe how many guys think that the 9mm is a lousy self defense round. Now don't get me wrong, I agree and like to carry a kimber 45 with 230 gr black hills ammunition. I also love my Kahr P9. The 9mm is a great personal defense round period. Loaded with a proper bullet it can have up to 430 fts of energy at the muzzle. Right up there with the 45 ACP. I know I wouldnt want to be hit with one of those anywhere on my body. Now the magazine restriction does take a big bonus away from the 9mm (high capacity). I would recommend whatever gun you shoot best. Shot placement is everything. I saw a video of a state trooper who was killed with one 22 lr round out of a pistol while he shot the criminal 5 TIMES with his 357 magnum. Hope that helps

We're not saying that that it's lousy; just that the .45 is better. I'm my opinion, energy is very important, but so is penetration. A 9mm with some 450 ft/lbs of energy doesn't really do the job if it doesn't go deeply enough to destroy vital organs or shock the nervous system. Especially if the target is wearing heavy or thick clothing (gunfights occur in winter, too). The heavier, slower rounds often outperform smaller, lighter ones in real-world situations.

This is kind of a goofy analogy, but which would you rather be hit with?

A 90 mph baseball?

or

A 75 mph bowling ball?

You know a few years ago I would have agreed with the 45 ACP being hands down a better stopper, but with today's 9mm loads the gap has closed quite a bit. I don't feel undergunned in the least carrying my 9mm.

It seems a pretty foolish argument to deride the 9mm because the .45 has more energy, when you are limiting yourself to a .45 when far better rounds are available in autoloaders such as: 50 AE, .357 sig, 10mm, and .44 automag.
Better yet, why limit yourself to an autoloader when you can get wheelguns that have energiew approacing that of a 30-06 in the .500 S&W?

With modern defensive loads, telling someone that a 9mm is inadequate is like saying that you wouldn't use a .308 for deer hunting when the .460 Weatherby is available.[>:]
