Default yote/rabbit gun

do you think a 22 mag will do the trick on a yote? i am looking for a caliber that will do both. i hear the 223rem would be excellent for yotes but to much for rabbits and the .410 would be great for rabbits but not good for yotes.
any ideas ??????

( just found out it is yote hunting the same time as rabbit )

It will if you limit your shots to around 75 yards.

I have a Savage Model 24 .222/20 ga. When I am calling coyotes I keep a load of SSGs in the 20 barrel and let em have that if they come in real close. Or the triple duce if they are out a little farther. If I want to shoot a rabbit or a grouse (in season) or a magpie, I just drop in a diffrent shot load. I have always wanted to get one of those cartridge adapters so I could shoot a .22 lr in the .222 barrel.

Hi Duffy,

If you are interested in finding "barrel inserts" or "chamber inserts" you can check out this site:

http://www.mcace.com

They may be able to provide what you are looking for.

Hope this helps.

I'd get a Rossi. You can get a combo gun, .223/20 gauge, or .223/410 for less than $200.00. One gun, two barrels.

The 22mag will do the job on both. Keep your yote shots within 75 yds and make only head shots on the rabbits, if possible. A body shot on a rabbit with the 22mag can do some serious meat damage.

quilly, the 223 rem will do great for yotes. i dono bout the 22lr for yotes though. good for close range. but i jus bought a 223. it was a savage and i bought it used and i shot a squirrel 3 days ago and i hit it in the head. nothin left of the head but the rest was fine. but i was shooting holopoints. a guy i talked to said the shells he gave me will enter a coyote make a small hole and then explode so there is no exit wound and he said it realy does a number on the innards of a yote. they are winchester 45 gr holopoint varment loads. prty cheap too. i thik like 10 bucks for a box of 40. i would definatly suggest a 223. have yet to shoot a yote with it but workin on it. and if u use a reg bullet like a 45 gr or smaller it will work for rabbit also.
