WHAT KIND OF COLD BLUE IS BEST?
I have an older rifle that don't look bad but needs touched up in a few spots. I was told that Brownells gunsmith quality " OXPHO-BLUE " was the best. Can you tell me how well this oxpho blue works and how long it stays on the barrel? Anyone with experience with it i would appreciate it. Thanks

Never used Wonder Blue, but I have heard good things secondhand, and the written reviews I have seen speak highly of it. Oxpho Blue is less expensive, and a very good cold blue in itself. I use Oxpho for tools, as well as firearm touchups. Wears well, much better than any other cold blue I have tried.

In response to the "oxpho- blue by Brownells, Thanks for your post. Can you give me the directions you used with this product? How do you strip the barrel and action before applying? Do you take it down to the bare metal? Also, Do you use any source of heat like a hair dryer or propane torch to make the product take to the metal better? Thanks.

Can't speak to what the oxpho stuff says, but heres what I did on the above gun. First, I dis-assembled the entire gun. I then took Fume free easy off max oven cleaner and coated everything. Metal, barrel, wood, I let it set and wiped it off. I then repeated until all the metal was bare. The Wood cleaned up extremely well with this as well. It took a few coats, but it worked. I then followed the directions TO THE LETTER. Cleaned with Blue Wonder Cleaner (an excellent product in it's own) And proceeded to blue it. I used a heat gun as per the directions!
