I think I read that its more like a .222 mag necked down to .20 cal. Do we really need a .20 cal? I think ruger should bring out a line of beltless magnums designed to fit in a std length mk II action. More power than the wsm line and not so stupidly big like the ultra mags.

It's actually a .222 Remington Magnum necked to a .204 diameter bullet.
I built a similar one three years ago by altering a .222 Remington reamer and proceeding to make a chamber and then a sizing die. It's a very fine round seeing velocities well past 4,000 ft/sec and seriously little recoil. Accuracy is good and the Pdogs just vaporize.....hence I named it the 5MM Vapodog.
I wouldn't begin to forecast how sales will go....I think Hornady (the Mfr. of the ammo) has made a big mistake by not using the .223 case.....time will tell.

I don't know "if" we really need it, but i'm a big fan of the 5mm rimfire Remington made in the 70's, and it sure performes great! I still have one of the tube feed rifles, and several boxes of ammo, but i sure hate to shoot all that ammo up!!
Anyway, i always figured that the reason the 5mm mag out performed the 22 win mag by such a wide margin was because of bullet design! The little 5mm bullet really does a great job in the rim fire!
