I took my Savage 11 30-06 out to the range in August to make sure I was ready for this season. I put 68 rounds thru it that day over the course of several hours, evaluating several different manufacturer and load combinations to see what flew the best. Since I was using the little 32 mm simmons scope that came on it I had a pretty tender spot on my forehead and my shoulder was aching a bit when I got home but I lived. 3" magnum slugs produce close to 60 ft lbs of force against your shoulder. 2 3/4 slugs are about 45. your 30-06 will produce less than 25 ft lbs shooting 180 gr rounds. I imagine it has a decent pad built into it so I think you will have no problem with it.

at the most it is the same as the 12ga, probably less. With recoil being a concern i would recomend trying a recoil pad. the new simms one looks real good and monts on the but instead of sliding over so it looks pretty good. Any recoil pad would do the job though

Dear Semi: The '06 will give +- 20 ft/lb of recoil, whereas a slug in a 12 Ga. shotgun delivers at least TWICE THAT MUCH, OR MORE!! If you can stand a 12 ga slug gun's recoil, you can shoot up to a .375 H&H without a whole lot of problem!! This is if you zero your shotgun and rifle both from a benchrest from a sitting position!
