what is the all around best caliber for whitetail deer hunting?

You would never have to look past the cartridges based on the 308 case. 243, 260,7mm-08 and 308. Having said that though my all time favorites are the 308 and the 6.5x55. I have taken more deer with these two than all the others I have used combined. My new favorites, (new to me) are the 250-3000, 257 Roberts and the 280. I can't be faithful to one caliber either
The 25-06 would have to be one of the best deer calibers going as well.

I usually don't participate in these polls. But I have to agree with James. The 308 is about the most perfect whitetail caliber. Easy to load for, lots of choices in wieght, plenty powerful enough up to 250yards. More for some people, I know. It is my all around fav.

have used most everything from 243 to 30-06 all perform well. depends on the indivduals ability to handle recoil for my 13 year old 7mm-08 me 280 remington.

My current favorite is the 280 Rem but I change my mind very few years. In reality there are probably two dozen or more rounds that could be considered "the best all around caliber".

Whatever .243 or larger centerfire you have in your hand when you are looking at the target and getting ready to pull the trigger.

I've got a Remington Model 7 rifle in 7mm-08....very flat shooting caliber and the gun is light and easy to carry. I use it for varmint hunting too.

The best bang for your buck ($) 30-06. Lets face the facts wide selection, fair price, if they sell ammo they are going to have at least one box of this cal. It can be used for small game with a 55 gr. round or anything as big as you might want to hunt in North America. Regards Hk19852

i agree with Steve D. 30.06, good all around caliber. Plenty of choices for ammo.. Also, have noticed .270's not that good in the brush, lots of bullet deflection. This is where a 30.30 or 3006 shine.
