For the at home guy doing a simple restaining / finishing, get the Tru oil stock refinishing kit. It' s simple and easy to use and has everything that you need to refinish a stock. If you have never done one before this is the easiest and most fool proof way to go.
Please don' t start painting your new gun up with cheap Walmart camo paint!!!!!! I am attending gunsmithing school and in the short 4 1/2 months I have been there so far I am so amazed at what people will do to perfectly fine guns. It baffles my mind at what comes through the school from customers.

heh thx for everyones input....
im getting my dad to refinish the stock (he has been a carpenter for 10 yrs and he has stained many things) i guess ill just goto the store and pick a color i guess....but i dont know how the color will turn out after its put on the dark natural wood of the stock...
also, is there any way to treat the metal of the gun so that it has a lower chance of rusting? i mean besides oiling it all the time....like is there something i can spray or wipe on it that will permanatley protect it from rust?
thx all
