I bought a S&W 25-5 that has a pinned 6" barrel, the best double action trigger I have ever felt and fantastic blueing and pachmyer grips. Also a mahogany presention case.
I can' t find any good info in my books, would anyone out there be able to tell me something about this firearm or a site that I can check.
I gave the $400 for it. I don' t think I got hurt but I don' t know for sure.
Just played a hunch, hope I was right.
Thanks for any and all help.

Sounds like you got a keeper! They tend to go from $400 to $575 depending on where you look. I bought my 4" 25-5 " Big Colt" for $375 used. I got lucky. I love mine and as long as you are reasonable with loads, yours should last to pass on to grandkids. Mine is my #1 woods companion. I have even shot it in some IDPA revolver matches. I can' t say enough about it!
Enjoy!

The model S&W 25-5 is an " N " frame as you probably already know. The original model 25 was chambered in 45 ACP using half moon clips.I believe the original model 25 was called the 1955 Target Model.Later on the model 25 was available like yours in 45Colt(Not Long colt). It' s a very accurate revolver and can handle quite heavy loads. You didn' t mention if yours has the 3 " T' s" or not.(Target trigger, hammer and target grips). I would say 400.00 was a good price for this Smith especially if it has the three T' s and the condition you said.If you handload you can work up some good loads for it. Allot of the factory ammunition is loaded on the light side due to the amount of old guns chambered for the 45 Colt that can' t handle the high pressures.Enjoy it.You done good .LOL.

Ruger-Redhawk, yes it has the 3 T' s.
I called it 45 Long Colt because that is what most other refer to to it as. I guess at least two of us know it is 45colt.
I do load my own and have some pretty hot loads for my Rugers and Marlin levergun, but I' ll probably shoot only regular loads in this gun. In fact I probably won' t shoot it that much since it looks so good.
Thanx

Aunsaber, I' m glad it has the target trigger and hammer. To me it makes quite a difference when shooting.I think you got a very good price on your 25. I have a 6.5" M-25 45 ACP and I bought a like new Model 25-5 in 45 Colt.My 25-5 is a 4" blued.I' ve had them for years and very seldom ever shoot them.I like Pachmyers. Most of my guns have them .I wasn' t being critical about the 45 Colt. I know most call it Long Colt which is incorrect. Most mfg' s are calling it LC now.Either way it' s a great old cartridge. All my Smith' s were bought long before the S&W sellout to the Clinton Administration.Unfortunately there won' t be anymore Smith' s coming home with me.At least new ones.
