I have an oppotunity to acquire a Winchester Black Shadow in the new 7mm WSM. Does anyone have one of these, or any experience with the 7 WSM? The scope on the rifle is like the ones on the Savage package deals, but altogether brand new it is only 350.00. MSRP on the rifle is 523.00 if I remember correctly. What do you guys think?

I' m not impressed with any of the short magnums. They are not really ballistically superior to their big brother. The only advantage I see is that you can get a short action instead of the standard long action or magnum action. And ammo is expensive and sometimes hard to find.
But, the deal itself sounds pretty good and if you don' t mind the negatives I mentioned above, go for it.

I have a 300 WSM in the black shadow,or the super spoter. It is a light compact, well shooting rifle.
As for the short mag cartriges they all prefom well on big game(.270,7mm,300)
I have seen 3 elk killed with the .300 at ranges of 120 yds to 250 all one shot kills.
I have seen 2 bulls killed by the .270 WSM all one shot kills ranges from 50 feet to 160 yds.
I have not seen the 7mm WSM preform, but as I have seen the others then it should be good also.
We all know they can not hold up to the bigger cousins if you handload, but off the factory shelf thet can hold their own.

They only negative I have heard about the 7MM short Mag is that the bullets have to be seated pretty deep therefore using up a lot of the powder space. I don' t know just how big a negative this would be.
