Thats not the news I wanted to hear.

I'm not very good at this so I'll just say he was definitely one of the good guys.

Thankyou olsaltydog. I've just never been interested in the computer stuff. Dad was the math guy in the family. I hated most anything that required anything to do with math so computers, for me anyway, were a no go from the start. But with the way they are today you don't have to be a programmer to get some enjoyment from them I guess. Point and click is in my wheelhouse.

Rockport, I remember the old man mentioning you and some property you manage here in Illinois and that he was thinking about sending my brother and I out to help you out maybe over the summer? Same rock? I'm sure we would be more than happy to help if we can. Speaking for myself, I'm always looking for new hunting opportunities and always willing to help out fellow hunters if needed. With the old man passing, the properties he managed will probably be closed off to everyone and sold off since he won't be around to fight the other owner so I'm sure we will all be looking for new places to hunt this year. I'll be packing up my house and moving here over the next few weeks but after that is all done and over with we could meet up and see where it leads if you want.

Yeah, that was me.

Unfortunately my good buddy that owned/farmed all the land that I managed passed away from cancer so the whole operation is on hold for now while I look for more property. If I'm able to get it going again I'll let you guys know for sure, I'd love to have you guys if I can get something going again.

He never told me what part of Illinois you were in. I'm guessing South West judging from that nice buck you have pictured with you. The old man had some large bucks cultivating on his properties but 10 years of work is more than likely going down the drain. I am not typically a pessimist but I have never liked the guy he partnered up with. Took advantage of my dads good nature. He wasn't a fool by a long shot but he always tried to see the best in people. But that's another story I guess. If you find yourself needing a hand feel free to give me a shout. The old man told you he would have something done, then it will be done. Have a great day and good luck finding new properties. And also, sorry to hear about your friends passing. Damn hard way to go that cancer. I'm relieved in a way that dad passed so quick and basically painless.

Adams county is where the big farm was. I live in Madison county now but spent most of my life in Pike Co.

Its hard to find good partners when it comes to hunting. I hope it works out for you.

How old was your dad? He always just said "old" or "at my age" but I don't recall him ever saying how old he actually was.

He would have been 72 on the 11th of this month. And yes, good hunting buddies are very hard to find these days. I inherited my dads tendency to be a perfectionist. While I don't really expect perfection out of anyone I hunt with, I do look for at least competence. And safety, for which I do expect perfection there. Since dad semi retired a few years ago I'm not in the field as much so I have a little more time to hunt.

Haven't been on in a while, so sorry to hear about this. He was a good guy, as mentioned. We all enjoyed his informative posts, and his banter. Prayers for the family... stick around hunters_life, this is a decent place. I lost my father in law suddenly a few years ago at 71 also... seems all too soon this day and age.
