The following cartridges come to mind....243 Win, 6MM Rem, .257 Roberts, .250-3000 Savage, .25-06, .260 Remington, 6.5X55 Swede, and even the 7-08 and .308 for bigger game than deer.
The following rifles make sense too: Winchesters compact M-70, Remingtons M-7 youth, Browning' s micro medalian, but it' s still easy to find a used Remington 700 ADL with a 20" barrel and just saw off the stock and glue on a recoil pad.
