RE: finding a rifle for a lady
I am a " lady" I shoot a .458 winchester. I' m not a good aim so weither i shoot the deer in the head, chest, anywhere, you can almost gaurentee a drop. Not to mention i' m 6' 3 and 565 pounds.
Seriously though.. Look into the .308, in a rem 700. They don' t kick, and partly because of remington' s gun having a little weight to it. Or just take her to the range and shoot some of yours and see what she thinks.. But it is quite a good idea to make sure she even wants to have a gun.

My wife shoots a 700 Remington in 250-3000. She also likes my 6.5x55 Swede. She hates anything that kicks. I talked her into shooting a 7MM Mag one time and she was mad as hell at me for two weeks. I quess it was a nasty trick. I have a friend however whos wife shoots a Model 70 in 416 Rem mag. She is just a slender gal too. They hunt in Africa every other year. In the off years they hunt B.C.

Get her a Youth model bolt-action with a 12" LOP in .260, 7mm/' 08, or .308, depending on if you plan to shoot anything bigger than deer (elk, bear, etc). I realize the 12" LOP is going to be a little short for her when she is shooting in warm weather. But with a couple layers of winter gear on, it will be just right!
I would recommend AGAINST a semi-auto, particularly the Mini-30, bullets from which are like lightning! They seldom strike twice in the same place!

a .257 weatherby shoots a 120 grain bullet has enough power (2910fps) to knock down whitetail and is a flat shooting gun.
a .243 with its heavy 100 grain only has 2134 fps
And the .260 Rem which is a ver good recommendation here will boast a heavy 140 at 2351fps but has a considerable drop of 55+ inches at 500 yards but to 200 yard this gun is excellent.

We' ll if it were me for deer it' d either be the 257 Roberts (if it' s her first gun), or if she can handle a little more recoil a 7mm-08. Probably a ruger in either one with a very good recoil pad. That last part is the most important! When you buy a gun for her to shoot, go ahead and get a good recoil pad put on it! It could be the difference in whether or not she keeps on shooting.
