Moose hunt choices
#14

I have a Browning .338 Win
Husqvarna 3006
And a .311 Can Imp Magnum in a Sako
For Moose 3006 loaded with 180 gr. Speer TBBC or Barnes MRX
are perfect for British Columbia Moose..
Moose aren't difficult animals to kill..
They really aren't hard to kill, they don't have the stamina of Elk.
With proper shot placement, hit in the vitals, and a premium bullet, they pretty much stand there, and fall over before a second shot is required..
Actually I've never had to but a second shot with an 3006 except an insurance kill to the brain before gutting..
Hit the in the wrong place and they will run..
My 3006 with these 2 bullets, dumps them over in one shot..Had 1 Moose
rear backwards and lay dead flat on it's back after being shot with the odd
6.. For a medium recoil caliber, the 3006 is a great moose killer..

I just love when some hunters insist that a 30 caliber bullet compared to "larger" diameter bores ( for elk or moose ) the little 30 caliber is insufficient and doesn't have enough stopping power to do the job. What kind of animals has the little 30-30 been killing since they stocked the shelves with it in the middle of 1895? The 30 caliber has likely killed more game in the USA than any other caliber that exists. 30-30, .308, 30-06, 300 win mag, ect.
I will agree that inside 200 yds for Moose or Elk, the 45-70 or .405 win IS the better choice. Because shots taken INSIDE 200 yds are where large diameter bullets are INTENDED to perform their best. ( for stopping power ) People shoot Moose and Elk at distances further than 200 yds. If I have my 30-06 loaded with 190 grainers and I have a moose inside 100 yds. I seriously doubt that a 45-70 will kill that moose any deader than my 06. But if I have a 55" moose standing 280 yds infront of me and Im holding my 45-70......I better hope I can get up on him quick enough to close the gap of that 80 yds. before he knows Im coming. With my 06.....I would just aim and squeeze.

Moose hunted in Canada a few times, and any of the three will be just about perfect. Bring the one you are most comfortable with. Most popular round used by the locals is the .308, closly followed by the .303 Brit.
