Default Reloaded .45-70 Ammo...Need help With Ballistics

Dear Friends, a while back a friend gave me a bag of reloaded .45-70 ammo, and I would like for you to interpret this for me as I am not a reloader. A paper in the bag says: 405 gr. SP Winchester ; 48.5 gr. ...4831 ; 2 gr. Bullseye CCI. What ballistics would this give out of a Browning 1886 SRC with a 22 inch barrel, and what game animals is this load tailored for?

Thanks a million,
Boltaction

One thing I wouldn' t do is shoot someone else' s reloads . There are a lot of people that like to shoot hot rounds and in the wrong gun that could be a major problem. If your friend loaded it just for your gun that would be different but if it was just something someone had leftover you would be better off pulling the bullets and starting over . I have a trapdoor , a Buffalo Classic ,and a Ruger # 1 all in 45-70 and they all shoot a different load . The #1 max PSI is almost double the trapdoor max ,yet just looking at the shell they are identical .

What I don' t fully understand is the 2grs. of Bullseye. It seems to me that these rounds are loaded with blended powder (48.5 grs. of 4831 & 2grs. of Bullseye). Personaly I would not fire these rounds. Good luck.

I' ve reloaded the 45-70 for a few years both for BP competition (Sharps) and for hunting with a Marlin 1895G.

It appears from your description that you have a mixxed load, and the Bullseye scares the crap out of me. I also don' t recognize 4831 as a normal 45-70 powder either. I WOULDN' T SHOOT THEM. Pull the bullets, scrap the powder, use the brass.

Also remember the only truely safe reloads are the ones you do yourself unless you have absolute trust in someone else as you' ll be placing your life in their hands when you shoot their loads

4831 is too slow a powder for the 4570. He is using the bulleye to get it to burn better. Bad Idea. As mentioned above pull the bullets and discard the powder. Start over. Your Browning will handle all 45-70 loads well as it is in the class with the Ruger number one for strength. As far as that load, the 405 grain bullet loaded with the right powder will take all North American game with ease, within its practical range. I load the 350 Grain Hornady with IMR 3031 to 1950 fps anything in its way is toast, or I should say roast.
