Hello, I am thinking about a new 12 ga Semi Auto slug gun for this year' s deer season and was looking for recommendations. I have looked at the Beretta ES100, Rem 1187 and the Winchester - any suggestions?
I currently have a Rem 870 with a Hastings Barrell but would like to find something that is considerably lighter while walking around in the woods.
Thanks

I HAVE A REMINGTON 11-87 WITH THE RIFLED/CANTILEVER BARREL, TOPPED WITH A LEUPOLD VXII IN 3-9X40 SCOPE, I LOVE THIS GUN. BUT IF YOU WANT SOMETHING LIGHTER FOR WALKING AROUND THEN YOU DON' T WANT THIS OR BASICALLY ANY SEMI-AUTO. I ALSO HAVE A MOSSBERG 835 PUMP WITH A RIFLED/CANTILEVER BARREL TOPPED WITH A BUSHNELL TROPHY 1.5-4 SCOPE, LOVE THIS ALSO. WHAT IS LIGHT TO ME AND IS VERY VERY ACCUATE IS MY MOSSBERG MODEL 500 PUMP 20 GA. WITH A RIFLED/CANTILEVER BARREL TOPPED OFF WITH THE SAME BUSHNELL AS MY OTHER MOSSBERG, THOSE 20 GA SLUGS ARE SO FLAT SHOOTING!!! BUT WHEN WE DO DRIVES I USE BUCKSHOT, SO THEN I SWITCH TO MY 12 GA. ITHACA DEERSLAYER SMOOTHBORE, RIFLE SIGHTS, LIGHT AND QUICK!!!

There is no such thing as a lightwieght slug gun with a cantilever mount. They are all heavy. I shoot a browning gold and 1187 and both are heavier than the 870 I used to carry. But the 870 slug gun didn' t have a scope. I think that adds the weight.

Thanks for the replies. My 870 has the 28in. Hasting Cantilever Barrel is very heavy and very accurate. I do not mind using this set up from a tree stand but it is pushing 11lbs with the scope. The Beretta ES100 that I checked out was much lighter and seemed like it would be alot more manuverable when stalking. The Rem 1187 was also lighter but not as light as the Beretta. I was also considering the Benelli Nova Pump, but have not found it in the stores yet. Does anyone have experience with the Beretta or Benelli? Thank you

The Remington 20-Ga. 1100' s are nice, and light. Get a rifled bore, and shoot the Win. Partition Gold or equivalent sabot slugs. These make any shotgun into the equivalent of a hot .45/70, even the 20-Ga. guns!
