Better than what? Rems are being cheapened every year and don't even come close to better made rifles like the XBolt or the Model 70. Of the two you're down to, I'd go with the XBolt in stainless and the Leupold 3x9x40 with Leupold dual dovetail mounts. A 50mm objective on that scope you mentioned isn't needed, as was mentioned previously in another post.

My first choice would be a Winchester Model 70 but of your two options I'd pick the Browning.

Better than the Browning! Maybe you should read Bigbulls post again. I think he knows what he is talking about. What has been cheapened on the Remington 700? They are identical to the guns made twenty years ago, yeah the cheaper ones with a synthetic stocks are cheaper, because of the stock, the action and barrels have not been changed. I have a twenty year old Remington 700 and it is identical to my new Remington, except for the stock.

I would be curious to see how many model 700s shoot as good as model 70s or the Xbolts. I think if you held a model 70, an Xbolt, and a model 700, you'll rule out the 700 as far as feel goes. Accuracy wise, that can vary, but law of averages will favor the Xbolt, or a model 70, Im betting.

Actualy the accuracy between the two are so close that it would fall into the hands of the shooter, not the rifle.

Outdoor Life they rated 7 centerfires in the following order, $, best 5 shot, 100 yard group size:

Cooper M52, $1862, 0.626"
Browning X-Bolt, $849, 0.828"
Reminton M700 VTR, $805, 0.835"
Sako A7, $850, 0.873"
Ruger M77 Hawkeye, $995, 2.255"
Reminton R-15, $1145, 0.660"
Mossberg 464, $473, 2.306"

Now if it is accuracy that is important to you, you can get a Savage for half the money that will out shoot both.

Difference there is, a browning or winchester will do that, and look good doing it, lol

Seriously? We're talking about an Remington SPS and a Browning stalker. They both have tupper ware black plastic stocks and blued steel.
Personally I don't like the euro-trash lines of the X-bolts at all.

Both companies make much prettier rifles.

Of course we can't forget about this alien laser gun looking thing from Browning. I think it has the green triangular thing from Remington beat in the ugly department. John Browning would be rolling over in his grave if he could see the euro trash stuff coming from Browning today.

Of the two you mentioned I would definitely go with the Browning. I like the Remington. But I would not give you a nickel for that SPS stock.

However I do question your prices. That price for the Remington sounds too high. And that price for the Browning sounds too low. If you can buy that Browning for that price then IMO you better go buy it tomorrow.

I like your scope choice for the price that Leupold costs. They have a great warranty(the best there is). Decent glass. And will last you a lifetime.

As for the mounts, any good quality mount is going to work on a 30-06 on a good quality rifle. Pick the ones you like. Tom.
