Default Mossberg 835 ported slug barrel w/ scope combo

I have Mossberg 835 that I don't use AT ALL anymore. Can't get any money for it, so I'm thinking of converting it to a slug gun. I see this slug barrel with the cantilever scope mount and the 3x9x32 scope for anywhere from $169.00 (WalMart) to $239.00 (BassPro). Anyone have experience with this set up?

If you value your hearing you'll stay away from a ported barrel.

What? Just kidding. I'd use hearing protection to sight the gun in.

I know a guy that has one. It works fine although the scope is not the greatest. If you have another scope, and you can buy just the barrel with cantilever mount, that may be the way to go.

I purchased that combo from Cabelas for my nephews deer gun. It shoots well and was in my price range to get him out in the woods with us.
No complaints about the accuracy, the scope is not the best but does it's intended job.

I would just get the barrel alone and put on the scope I want.

I've tossed around the same idea for my 535. Everybody says that the scope isn't the greatest. I figured that much, but I haven't heard anyone say that the scope was bad. As long as it holds its zero it would be a place to start. The crappy part of the whole deal is that you can probably get the barrel with a scope at Wally World cheaper than you'll find it anywhere else without a scope.

The scope is not at all bad and it has held zero for the last two seasons needing no adjustments.
It is not as clear as my Nikon Slugger scope.
IMHO it's a perfect setup for a budget minded hunter and it will get the job done.

Good info from all. I just need something on that 835 so I can get some use out of that gun. May go to a state that has a shotgun or muzzleloader season only and it will fit the bill there.
