Thanks 8mm. Yes, the 7mm is scoped. It has an older but brand new Bushnell Scopechief VI 2.5x8 on it. Seems like a pretty nice scope, very clear actually. I have not shot either, but plan to before deciding on anything. Thanks for the info. I hate to sell a gun too...I just have too much stuff!

I think getting a box of factory ammo for each gun and taking a trip to the range is in order. Take your son too and let him try a few rounds for each gun. Then you'll be better able to decide which one to sell, or if you'd rather get rid of both.
Take 4 targets ... 2 for you and 2 for your son and each of you fire both guns 5 times.
It will leave you 1/2 a box of shells for any potential buyer and help you see how each gun is or isn't worth it to you or your son.
Federal, Winchester and Remington all load for both, so with a few calls around you should find some factory anemic loads to try. It's just as well that you use the weak factory stuff until you test fire. If you've never fired either gun you might want to have them checked out first.

Here's a czech made 7 X 57 that I spruced up a bit.
It retains the original action (untouched) and the original barrel and the original stock.
All I did was rasp and sand and crudely finish the stock, bob the barrel and install iron sights and reblue it. I also added a forend tip and a recoil pad.
I have very little in this gun and it's a fine truck gun...but I went at it with an eye for extreme thrift.....I have about $250 in this gun as it shows here.
If it gives you some ideas then go for it.

Good looking gun Vapo
jd, thanks for the info. This is part of my issue, I have several folks on several boards that have told me what it is, or could be. I think I have about 4 valid options at this point
I guess I need to find someone local, or a gun show or something to really figure out what I have. Thanks for all the input!

Let us know if and when you fire the guns how they perform and what you think. And of course let us know if your learn any more of their pedigree.
And Vapodog, nice work on the Czech! You've made a beautuiful truck gun ... and really an all around fine deer rifle for the visually gifted (I can't shoot iron sights much beyond 75 yards anymore).
