I was recaomended the Silver Tips by a gun collector in GA. I bought 4 differnt types of 130 grain 270s...and after I shot the rifle in I carefully fired a group of 3 from each box..

The remington corelocs were worse....3 1/2 inch group at 100 yds..18.95 a box.

The regular Red Box Federals were next to the worse.. 3 inch group at 100yds..13.95 a box.

Next were the BLue Box Federals ,,2 inch group at a 100yds..23.95 a box

Last were the Winchester Silver Tips..1 inch group at 100 yds..28.95 a box at Walmart..{ -;

Thanks to all of you for the input. I have a while before I get out after the coyotes, so I guess I'll buy a box here and there and figure out what shoots the best.

I would stay with a 130 gr. soft pt. I would try Hornady Custom Loads in a regular 130 gr soft pt. I have several .270's that shoot them just about as good as reloads and they aren't that expensive at 25 a box. Get a decent scope at least 40 mm and you set. Sight in as stated 2" high at 100 yds puts you right on at 200. Good luck keep us posted

If your friend is going to do the reloading I would try the 90gr or 110gr bullets for coyote hunting. For deer like everyone else has said the 130 seems to be the sweet spot for the .270

Im with RR on the 110 Accubonds. Ive worked them up but havent hunted them yet. I didnt want to rep their effects on game without personally trying them but am confident in RRs judgement. My load is 57 grains of IMR 4831 and a mag primer. Sight dead nuts at 200 and anything you hold the crosshairs on to 300 or a hair over is dead. Flat shooting cartridges such as the .270 became so popular for their forgiveness to poor range estimators.

I dont have a chrony but the book shows max loads at 3300 fps and im right at max plus a mag primer so Im sure its a little over. For plains hunting this is really a great load. With a dead nuts 200 yard zero it drops around 4 inches at 300 and shoots an inch hig at 100. Plus recoil is minimal making it great for kids or women or recoil sissies like me.
