Default Open Carry help quick! Ohio

I've had someone ask me a question that I do not fully now the answer to. Hopefully someone here can help.

As I understand it, open carry of a firearm is legal in ohio. There is no law against it. But a law enforcement friend is trying to tell me otherwise. Any help?? or links to back it up? I searched for a long time

Doing a quick search on the internet... everything I read states that it is legal to open carry in Ohio with out a permit but you must be licensed to open carry in a vehicle. You must also be licensed to conceal carry in Ohio and there is no legal definition of concealed. Should you be carrying openly and momentarily conceal your firearm you could be cited, detained, etc... etc... and it is left up to the judges to define on a case by case basis of what concealed is if you do so with out a permit to do so.

I would never ask a police officer about any laws. You just might get arrested and put in the slammer because you took advice from an uninformed police officer. I find that far too many of them don't have a clue about the laws they are suppose to be enforcing.

This thread is a perfect example.

Not necessarily. I have done so on a couple gun-related issues and gotten different answers depending who I called.

It is each individual's responsibility to know the law, you will be told in court, but even the police trusted to enforce it often do not know!!!

Here is a link to a CCW website also you can check with the NRA. From what I read you can carrry open but you can't have it loaded in a car without a permit. For $55 on a 5 year permit why not just do it?

click here for Ohio gun laws: http://www.nraila.org/statelawpdfs/OHSL.pdfWhenever you have a question like this, refer to the NRA-ILA website which provides the content of every state's gun laws.

Any gun owner who is not a member of the NRA is not doing his/her duty to protect the Second Amendment.

It appears that open carry requires no permit.
But to carry concealed requires a permit/license.
