RE: Scope opinions please
Ok, ive found a nikon buckmasters 4.5-14x40 for about the 200 markwhat are your thoughts on this one? Being this is a relitivly cheap high power scope im alittle leeryof it. Do I buy a lower end high power scope or a higher end 3x9?? The gun might be use for one deer season (yea i know its big) till I get something smaller, other then that moose, elk, mule deep, caribuo...maybe a bear.

I don't think you would have an issue with a Buckmaster, they are quality scopes made by Nikon. For a hunting rig I don't think I would go with a 14x. Realistically what do you expect your longest shots to be and what do you plan on hunting? A 338 winmag is a bit overkill for deer but very potent for larger game. Many people will talk about taking really long shots. In reality most shots are taking within 150 yds. On elk sized game you will easily see out past 300 yds with a 3x9. Most I would go would be a 12x but that's just me.

Always go for quality over quanity. A good 3x-9x scope will enable you to see/aim at things that in a cheaper scope would take at least 12x to do the same job. Naturally in your price range the differences will be extremely subtle or non-existent.

Here's my opinion with scopes:
Take the price and overall quality of the gun. Divideby 1/2. That is the starting point to start looking at scopes for it.
Example
$900 - Remington 300 Ultra-Mag: Youwouldn't dare put a cheesy $49.95 BSA scope from Wal-Mart on it. So, you could safely say, that for $450, you could get a heck of a good scope for it at a bare minimum. Now if you really had the $$$$ you could also spend another $900 and get a top quality Zeiss scope for it.
Just my opinion...

Zeiss Conquest 3x-9x-40mm don't cost 900$, you can usually find them for about 500-550$. That statement isn't entirely true-sometimes it's wise to spend as much or more on the scope than the rifle.

Anyone have any input on the Weaver Classic V-Series V10 its 2x-10x 38mm a friend has one on a 30.06 he likes it alot. He uses it deer hunting and said it picks up light real well dosent fog and is pretty affordable. Not a problem close in going down to 2. Think the 10x will allow me to take a 350yd shot if ever faced with it?

Ownership of Weaver has changed a few times over the past few years. Overall they have a good reputation though. I have personally never owned one though. Honestly I think you would be better off buying a used Leupold off of ebay for just a little more money. Leupold's have a lifetime warranty.
