I don't think you would have an issue with a Buckmaster, they are quality scopes made by Nikon. For a hunting rig I don't think I would go with a 14x. Realistically what do you expect your longest shots to be and what do you plan on hunting? A 338 winmag is a bit overkill for deer but very potent for larger game. Many people will talk about taking really long shots. In reality most shots are taking within 150 yds. On elk sized game you will easily see out past 300 yds with a 3x9. Most I would go would be a 12x but that's just me.
