I just add a little oil to the end of the snake and it works fine. They work good at the range, but I wouldn' t use it as a primary method. It also works good as a finisher. Once you' ve cleaned your rifle just add a little oil to the snake and run it through once and it' ll oil everything up good.

i use it just about exclusivly on my 357mag. then again its had very few jacketed bullets thru it so i only worry about leading, which it takes out very well. i will definatly get one for other calibers

I use one for whenever I am target shooting, hunting, etc.. However, when I get home, its non jointed rods, copper brush, patches, and cotton brush, with lots of degreaser and then a thing run with some barrel oil.

I use mine for quick or touch up cleaning. I pour the solvent just ahead of and just behind the brush, then pull ' er through. Makes them look pretty, but doen' t get the copper out like I want, so I use the rod, brush and patches for a good scrubbin'

For the price...they are hard to beat. It will differ from gun to gun as to the amount of cleaning you need to do. My 223 dirties the barrel beyond belief. I have a S&W pistol that the bore snake cleans adequately.

I have some for rifle, shotgun and pistol. The ones for rifle I use after regular cleaning methods, that long piece of clothe is great for removing that final bit of gunk and applying a light coat of oil. I haven' t thought of useing them at the range or in the field. I will take' em to Newcastle, Wyoming this year. I use the ones for shotguns the same as the rifle, but I also will use it for a quick clean after bust' en clays untill I can give it a good cleaning. The ones for pistols are o.k. if you shoot a few rounds only (100 or so), if you shoot lead they are worthless in my experiance.[:-]
