RE: Top shooting myths?
For me shooting at 100 yds off a bench my accuracy will not improve no matter how much I shoot.

RE: Top shooting myths?
Here is a look at what I have decided on.
Top Ten Hunting/Shooting Myths[/i][/b]
1. Professional hunters on TV/magazines know what they are talking about.[/b][/b]
a. They are getting paid to promote
b. High fence (Ted Nugent shooting a deer with a tag in its ear)
2. You need lighter faster bullets to shoot longer range.[/b]
[/b]a. Heavier bullets have a higher ballistic coefficient and carry a flatter trajectory over longer distances.
3. Bonded bullets are the needed to kill deer[/b].
a. Bonded bullets vs. non-bonded
b. Lead tips vs. poly tips
4. The 30-06 is the best all around caliber for hunting.[/b][/b]
a. The best all round caliber is the one you can shoot.
5. A magnum caliber kills deer better then a standard.[/b][/b]
a. Hunter’s ability to shoot is more important than caliber.
b. Shot placement is the key to any hunt.
6. Big heavy bullets provide more knockdown power and kill DRT/Light fast bullets provide hydrostatic shock and kills DRT.[/b][/b]
a. Large bullets deposit energy in a deer.
b. Faster bullets create more damage.
7. If you don’t find blood at the point of the shot or immediate area you missed.[/b][/b]
a. Heart shots can stop blood flow and pressure.
b. Impact sight looks different in the tree,
8. If my gun shoots a 2’’ group at 100 yards its will shoot the same at 400 yards.[/b][/b]
a. MOA increases as the bullets travels
b. The angle can actually be an ever increasing arc.
9. Round nose bullets make good brush guns.[/b][/b]
a. All bullets deflect and no bullet bust through brush.
10. My rifle shot dead on when I sighted it in three years ago and the chart in the box showed how the BDC makes my gun accurate to 500 yards.[/b]
a. Practice, Practice, Practice

People who are obviously not skilled and/or practiced at shooting are forever saying they can't abide by the .30-06 because it doesn't have enough power out to 300 yards, or out to 400 yards. But yet, these jokers have no business shooting out to those ranges in the first place. For most hunters 250 yards or even 200 yards is the practical and ethical limit of their shooting range, and for this range the .30-06 (and other less than super flat cartridges) is plenty flat shooting enough.

But being in Ohio I don't get to use a rifle so it is all academic.

RE: Top shooting myths?
How could I forget this one? I hope no one has posted it yet, I have heard this one quite a few times.
"a .22LR has enough energy behind it to travel for a mile, unabated, and only drop an inch or two."
That is an actual quote from someone who was an authority on the subject because he "used to sell firearms for quite some time".
Yeah, I can point right to that statement.
