I was watching "The New Detectives" on Discovery awhile back and they had a case where a man was accidentally shot from almost a mile away with a 44 Mag. Now I personally wouldn't shoot much farther than 50 yards with one because that is what I feel comfortable with. My abilities are far inferior to those of the firearm.

I keep my shots around 50-75 yards only because I know my limitations.Anything over that using a handgun is out of my range.If I had a good rest perhaps I would try a longer shot, but shooting off hand I will keep it at my limit.I want to make clean humane kills. I know the gun and the round can do it,just not sure enough about myself. Ruger Redhawk

One of my friends hunts with a Ruger Super Redhawk .44 Mag and he shot an elk once at over 150 yards. He has killed 11 elk in the past 12 years with it.

The .44 mag is a great hunting round. I won't shoot anything over a 50 yards because that is what I feel comfortable with however I regularly shoot at targets at 100 yards with success. Today we were busting water jugs at 147 yards. I was shooting my ruger blackhawk w/ 7.5" barrel and my buddy was shooting his redhawk w/5.5" barrel. They were both topped with Millet red dot sights.

Propmahn, You and I have read the same artical. I was just going to state most of what you wrote but you beat me to it. Well most of these people are saying what THERE limit is NOT 44 mag limit. Limbaugh and his wife hunt with there 45 colts loaded with good hardcast bullets to around 900 fps. His wife shot through a mule deer at 80 to 90 paces. So IF you load it right a hard cast bullet will go through it way out there. BUT as propmahn said its you that will stop yourself as for the limit before the 44 mag is done in most cases. You got to remember that people will give you there limit and that is fine but not what the great 44 mags limit is.
