Which bulk ammo for ar-15??
Greetings guys,
I bought an ar-15 recently. I have had no real experience with ar type rifles and have not even shot one before.
I'm looking to get about 500-1000 rounds for it (that should get me started...lol). I'll probably want to get fmj bullets, but am unsure. Is there is much qulity difference in any brand ammo that is, say, sold by cabelas or perhaps sportsman's guide?? I'm always attracted by cost savings so I'd generally just look for the best bargain at first. If anybody has any grain preference (or even bullet preference...fmj vs hollow point or whatever), that'd be helpful too. Are brands or type of bullets to stay away from??
thanks

RE: Which bulk ammo for ar-15??
I would HIGHLY recommend staying away from steel cased ammo like Wolf or Brown Bear. The reason for this is the lacquer coating on the outside of the cases to keep them from rusting. When you "get happy"(shooting rapid fire), and who don't when shooting an AR, the lacquer coating will melt if the chamber gets hot enough. Then after it cools down, it will solidify, causing problems chambering ammo and being hard as hell to remove. I would recommend sticking to brass cased ammo.
