1187 or silver hunter?
I am faced with a dilema, I want t new autoloading or over and under shotgun for waterfowl and the odd bit of upland hunting. I currently own an 870 express super mag and although it has been great for me I would like something new in an autoloader or economically priced over and under. I have been debating between the 1187 and the browning silver hunter esthetically I prefer the browning but I also appreciate the remington's price and it seems like a no frills get er done type shotgun. In the OU department I have been considering the stevens 512 and the CZ onyx. Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have shot both the 11-87 and the silver hunter, both top notch guns, the Silver hunter is a very smooth gun liked it alot, great cycling gun. the only complaint I had with the Silver hunter was the over sized forearm on it, it just didn't feel right to me.
A Remington is always a solid gun as you know with your 870, very nice gun, smooth, you can swing it alot easier, I found it to be a little on the lighter side. I have always been a Remington kind of guy, I have both they 11-87 and 1100 and they only guns that came close to making me choose otherwise would have been the Browning line of guns.
Either way you have narrowed it down to two fine guns and whatever you choose will be an awesome addition for duck hunting. Good luck and when you get it post pictures I would like to see it.
I really don't know anything about O/U's so I will let someone else tackle those for you.

If you don't like the forearm on the Silver take a look at the Winchester SX3. Basically the same gun, but a little slimmer, and you should be able to find it for the same price or a little cheaper.

If you go with an auto my vote would be for the 11-87. I used a 11-87SP3in mag for around 12 years. Its sort of retired now, but I never had any trouble with it. I've handle the new ones a few times and they seem pretty nice, and the price seems to be good.Other than that I don't know much about the new 11-87s. I thought I would put in my 02. worth. I like andtrust the good Ol Remingtons. Hopefully someone will give a report on the new ones. Sorry can't help you out on o/u. Hope I was some help. Good luck!

I owned an 11-87,and I now own a browning gold, which has the same basic operating system as the silver.I much prefer the browning because it cycles all lighter upland or target loads, while the 11-87 has failed to properly cycle some lighter loads.

I'd go with the 11-87. You'd be limited to just 2 shells with the O/U and you'd have 3 shells with the 11-87 and a mag plug. That one extra shell may be the difference between a dead bird and one laughing at you as he flies away.
