Default Gun Safe?

Seems like holiday season also means home fire season. Everyone must have their tinder-dry Christmas trees and space heaters fired up - been seeing quite a few home fires lately.

Got me to thinking about all the stuff sitting around the house that would be dearly missed if we were unfortunate enough to have a fire. Fairly close to the top of the list would be the firearms.

I don't have a huge collection (currently approx. 6 long guns and 4 hand guns) but plan on growing that by a few over the next couple of years.

What does everyone else do to protect their collections? Right now I'm considering:
[ol][*]Safe deposit box at the bank for documents and valuables - guns in the el-cheapo Stack-On steel gun cabinet.[*]Small fire-proof safe at home for documents and valuables - guns still in the old cabinet.[*]New fire-proof gun safe (not a huge one, <800lbs.) for guns, documents, valuables, etc...[/ol]
Thoughts?

Default RE: Gun Safe?

Get the BIGGEST,best fireproof rating, best built safe you can possibly afford. The fireproof rating is no brainer, but the size requires explaination. Basically, the better built safes will be heavier due to the thicker steel they're made of,and the bigger they are,the harder it'll be for someone (or group of someones) to pack the safe off-whole kit & caboodle. The largestAND best builtsafes provide the most security of all. Another thing I've found is you can ALWAYS put more in it,but you CAN'T make it bigger-just like a garage-and believe me,sooner or later you'll want a bigger safe. A couple more things that need to be touched on is getting a goldenrod dehumidifier to put inside the safe, and BY ALL MEANS-lag bolt the safe you choose secrurely to floor!!!!! I even went as far as cutting a steel plate to fit in the bottom of my safe and using several 5/8" grade 8 allthread lag bolted completely thru the concrete and using lock washers/nuts.
