H&R USH misfires...
#1
Hey guys,
A unusually large number of reports have been arising of USH owners having "failure to fires" after pulling their triggers recently. I would be interested to hear from any members that may have experiences this either at the range or while hunting. Any info on ammo, age and condition of gun, etc, would be greatly appreciated.
I am trying to get a handle on how significant this problem might be and thank everyone in advance...

Ihad a fail to fire this past week sighting in...I was using winchester partition gold ammo, the primer was struck but it didnt fire and I tried twice.I just assumed it was a primer issue with the shell. Did not happen again. My gun is about 3 years old..This is the first I heard of any problems.... Please keep us posted thanks

I've had 2 misfires so far. They were with Hornady SST's and happened while sighting in. The primers were struck, but I think it might have been an issue with the ammo instead of the gun. I've had some inconsistant SST's this season. Glad it happened at the bench rather than at the stand. I'm going to try the copper solids and lightfields in the off season.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the input. It has become obvious that there is in fact some problem with these guns that is causing a statistically significant amount of "failure to fires". At this point I can not say I have any particular insight concerning a possible resolution. However, thanks to everyone'sinput onseveral forum's a gentleman from another forum is in the process of bringing this to the attention of his contacts at H&R and will let us know if there is anything he can add. Until then please keep any reports coming as they may be usefull down the road.

On Saturday I had 3 misfires out of 15 rounds through my USH.
We had one not fire on fri I also believe my brother had it happen as well.
I had the same problem with SSTs and had one Winchester Partition Gold that didn't fire.
Brand New Thumbhole Ultra Slug Hunter (bought 2 weeks ago)….Hornady SST 4 boxes (20 shells) (bought 2 weeks ago). I had 2 misfires through the 20 shells. I looked at the primer and it was imprinted by the hammer…. All I can think about in the tree stand, Monday and Tuesday was is this shell that's in my gun gonna fire.
I bought my 20 gauge USH in December 2006 from Tanners in Jamison, PA. Buckhammers, Lightfields and Hastings shot well and no misfires. Hornady SSTs, of which I had four boxes attempting to sight in, gave me fits. I had no luck getting them to group, and had four out of five that wouldn't fire. Someone else at the range had a 20 gauge, some type of pump, and they fired for him.
I recently tried Winchester Partition Gold sabots and got nice groups, but had one misfire. I still have that round.
I would say that I have fired no more than 100 rounds through the gun so far. I am afraid to take it out for fear I'll get a misfire when it counts. I guess it will have to go back to the manufacturer. I hope they back it up.
My 20 GA. USH is 2-3 years old and probably has about 50 rounds (give or take) through it. The gun is pristine. This past Saturday I zeroed a new scope on the gun and had 3 misfires over 15 rounds. In each case there was a dimple indentation left on the primer and each of the three misfire rounds were subsequently successfully fired out of a Mossberg 500 by my shooting partner.
The day before Thanksgiving my father and I sighted in our USH which are each at least 6 years old. Over 100 rounds through each gun if I had to estimate. Out of about 25 combined shots I bet we had at least 6 misfire while shooting Federal Barnes Expanders. The problem was not isolated to one gun. Both guns were having the problem.
Monday morning my 20 USH misfired at a six point i was firing at. I pulled the trigger and the gun did not go off. Pulled it back again and still did not go off. Opened the action and looked at the shell which had a light primer strike.I put another shell in and fired. The gun went off. I am using federal tip barnes expander. The gun is 3 years old and about 50 rounds through it. Never had this problem before.
