Default Rust removal

I have a small spot of rust on my barrel. How can I get rid of it? I want to know if its ok to use fine steel wool without having to re-blue the barrel, or if anybody has any other ideas.

a little hoppes solvent and the finest grade steel wool works wonders. Just don't scrub too hard.....

I use gun oil and 0000 steel wool. I have heard that gun oil and a scotch brite pad will do the same thing. Just rub lightly and you will not take any blueing off.

0000 steel wool and a little gun oil has worked for me in the past as well.
