So i was wondering if this would be a good deal. There is a Savage 111 FPX3 for about $400. It is a 30-06 and part of the package is a scope. I was just wondering if it would be a good deal or if i should just but another rifle(like my308 remmington) and buy another scope.

Why is your name Savage4life, and you ask this question???? The Savage gun is great, and the scope sucks. If you buy the package take the scope and put it on a low recoil 22 or 17hmr. I still don't understand how your sign in could be Savage4lifeand you would be asking this question. Are you trying to stir the pot???

I had a Savage model 16 FXP3 in 270WSM. The scope was a Simmons of some type. The only reason I bought it was the combo was cheaper than the rifle alone. The first thing I did was replace the scope and while I was at it, I replaced the el-cheapo rings and bases too.
Mymain two complaints with the riflewere: I never could warm up to the accu-trigger andthe syntheticstock. That was by far the worst stock I have ever seen on a rifle. I've heard that the newer stocks are better but do not have first hand experience. I do know that Midway used to have a very nice laminated stock forSavage rifles that I would have bought had I kept it.

That's what I did too. I have an older model Savage 110, but in .308 and it came with a POS Simmons 3-9x32 scope and cheap aluminum rings. I tried to shoot with the scope, but realized how cheaply made the scope and rings were. So, I ended up getting new solid steel rings, and a Bushnell 3-9x40 scope.

nothing wrong with the savage package. I bought a 110 in 7mm-08 and the damn thing shoots better than any rifle i own for under $350. I even kept the cheap scope on it and it works just fine. Year after year i re-sight the gun and it's always where it was the year before. I love my savage actually and would buy another if i needed one.
