Default H&R 20 gauge

I just bought a H&R 20 gauge single shot smooth bore and sent it to H&R to mate it up with a rifled barrel. My buddy has one and I love the feel but have yet to shoot one. Does anyone have this set up that can give me some opinions?

I would like to hear some opinions also. I have a Remington 12 guage slug gun, but I traded for a H&R 20 guage last night. I was thinking about doing the same thing. I didn't know you had to send the whole gun in to get a barrel. I just bought a rifled barrel for my Rem 870 from ruger mike.

rotor head, what did they charge you for the barrel? Are you goung to put a scope on it?

Edit- I know you will be good for deer out to 100 yards. I've never owned one, but I've heard plenty of guys say it before.

I had to remove my smooth bore barrel and had to send H&R my stock/reciever. They match up the rifled barrel to the receiver. The total I paid is 124.00, I get a rifled barrel with scope mounts and a trigger extension. The bad thing is the wait, it can take 4-6 weeks in the peak season. If you are interested in purchasing one I recommend doing it soon. Yes, I am putting a scope on it. The reason I bougnt this gun is for the size, it is pretty short.

After all said and done it would of been cheaper to just go out and purchase a either a H&R Ultra just under $200or the Ultra Deleuxe from $225/$275.

I have the Ultra Deleuxe in 20ga., let me tell you guys, that this SOB is one hell of a tack driver, I'm using Hornady SSTs, topped off with a Leupold VX-II in 3-9x40. Some people are getting great results with the Lightfields in this shotgun.....Best of luck!!!!

Top three 20ga. slug guns under $2200 in terms of accuracy and trajectory with the 20ga being a better choice over a 12:

1. Tarhunt
2. Savage 210 ~ H&R Ultra Deluxe

Nothing wrong with Rem., Browning or Mossberg. All will kill deer just as well but if you want centerfire accuracy out to 125-150yrds, you made the correct choice. I'll take out my ML if I know my shots will always be beyond 125yrds.

After I bought the 20 gauge smooth bore I saw the H&R with the rifled barrel at Bass Pro and thought I would have gotten a better deal. But now I two barrels instead of one for the same price.

I went and picked up my H&R 20 last night. In perfect shape, just like new. I traded a Foiles Meatcutter Goose call for it. I am going to put a rifled barrel on it for sure.Do up think I can just pick one up at Bass Pro or Spotsmans Warehouse?

No you can not Brian. The reciever must be sent in so they can fit the barrel to the reciever.

i don't think you can get the ultra barrel if you have the SB1 frame. i believe the heavy barrels only go on the sb2 frames.
