I answered this in your other post so I will be brief here. The SKS will kill deer with the proper ammo, but I would opt for the 30-30 myself just for the ammo selection.
SKS's are a bit heavy as well, with really nasty triggers, but if he gets to shoot it first you will see if it works for him.
Depends on the gun and who made it. More than an SKS most likely though.

Don't know a what a model 94 is worth but mine is a 1973 in 90 % condition and a friend gave it to me. $150 and its yours. And yes you can shoot it first...or like I said he can shoot it til you run out of money. I personally have never shot it, its not my cup of tea.
