Default +P 44 Magnum Bullets

I own a Winchester 44 Mag. rifle. Has anybody had any experience with using +P bullets in a lever action? Any recommendations on other bullets that will work well?

I don' t know anything about +P bullets, but I' m assuming you' re looking for a good deer hunting bullet for your rifle. As far as it all goes, and cost wise, Winchester Super-X 230gr. Jacketed (semijacketed) soft points are almost as cheap to shoot as handloads, and are extremely accurate, and hotter than most wheelguns should handle, basically they are REALLY good for lever guns.

If you still want to reload them, Speer makes a heavy bullet, 300gr, in a hard construction, I forget now exactly what make, but it' s their only listed bullet for the .44mag at 300gr in their last volume, 13. I used the same loads in my wheelguns and my lever gun for hunting two years ago, and then I quit that and upped the dosage for the rounds I fed to my lever gun, I forget right now what velocity I was getting exactly, but it was close to 1950 if I recall, with a 300gr bullet in a 20" bbl, that' s not too bad. At that size and weight, the harder they are, the more meat you save, and at that speed, they don' t have to open at all to get the job done right.
