300 Win Mag.. 300 Weatherby Mag ..300 WSM Which one has more recoil

There are more then 4 iterations of the weatherby vanguard and each will have a difference in felt recoil providing they all way the same. This is a mountain being made out of a mole hill.Use the recoil calculator and yes different rifles will handle the same cartridge differently. a 6 3/4 lb Kimber montain chambered in 300 wsm actually has less felt recoil then a heavier 300 wsm riflle even though the recoil calculator says it shouldn't. It is "FELT" recoil and is interpreted by humans differently.

You had said there were four different constructions of Vanguard stocks and I was asking, since I don't know, whether you meant that there are multiple constructions of the synthetic stock. Not trying to be argumentative, just trying to learn...

Those are the 4 different stocks they can be sold with

All i can tell you is, i had two guns exactly the same, one 300 Win. mag., and the other 300 Wby. Mag.. And the Wby. had more felt recoil with the same weight bullets...
I don't know about the other 300, as i've never had one, but i'd bet the Wby. will have the most recoil...

I'm not sure how it relates, but Hodgdon' web site shows that using the same brand powder (H4350) and the same bullet (180gr) these three cartridges develop the following:
powder charge FPS Pressure
300 WSM 64gr 2950 63,900
300 Win Mag 67gr291853,100
300 Wby Mag 72gr 2974 54,600
There must be something about the case designs that causes such significant differences in burn rate to have this much effect on pressure.Muzzle Energy should be close to the same given equal bullet weight and close to equal MV. So is the difference in recoil related to time ofacceleration?

My ratings were what they felt like to me...purely subjective. I stand scientifically corrected as necessary. I have not shot an Ultra Mag, but my comment was based on a friends observations. Next time I'll just shut up.

IF rifles in all three were to fire the same weight of bullet at the same MV, and all three rifles weighed the same, the round using the heaviest powder charge would give the most "FREE RECOIL". However, this doesn't mean that that rifle would feel the worst to the shooter. Stock shape, etc., has quite an influence on how bad the recoil FEELS.
Any change in the makeup of the roundfired will also affect how much the rifle recoils. Lighter bullets give lower recoil, as will alower powder charge and a lower MV - and vice-versa.
Overall, I would say the .300 Weatherby will generally have the most recoil, (as it usually uses MORE powder to get a higher MV with the same bullets) the .300 Win. will be next, and the .300 WSM the least.
BUT, if you want to know for sure, weigh the gun, pull a bullet from a given round of ammo, and weigh bullet& the powder charge. Then fire a few of the rounds, and determine their MUZZLE VELOCITY! Then plug yournumbers into this formula - it will tell you the actual recoil of that gun and load!

I'll tell you right now that a faster burning powder is going to punish you more. Anybody reload shotgun shells? I remember being a youngin' and shooting some fast buring 20ga buckshot my father loaded out of my light double bird gun and wishing I'd never taken up hunting. He went back and used something a bit slower and I could shoot all day and not bat an eye. Velocities were nearly the same, payloads identical... there is something to burn rates and case designs.
