I just bought a remington vslf in 223. if they had it in 22-250 i would have grabbed that in a heartbeat! It's a great cartridge. I had a winchester model 70 for a while but it just didnt do it for me so i sold it.

Ok nowto decide between the 220 swift and a 22-250. Whats the ballistic comparison between these two cartridges.

Perfect for varmits and I have even taken some whitetails with mine.. Check out the 55 Grain BTHP.. I have a Vangard VGL in 243.. It is a good little gun.

the ballistics are very close. you can actually get a 22-250 and have it reamed to ackley improved and in some cases better the 220. as well you will get better case life out of an ackley over the other two. if you dont want to wildcat i would get the 250 mainly do to the fact that ammo is easier to find.

Huh? It's the cheapest gun they make, and its not even a weatherby action. It's a Howa 1500 action made in Japan based on the remington 700. You can get a Howa 1500 with a Hogue stock for about the same price, the Howa might actually cost a bit more.

I'm not saying they are not good rifles, because they are. Just that they are not normally what you think of when you say Weatherby. They are Weatherby's answer to the budget sporter rifle market.

I can't speak for the vanguard, but I can speak for the caliber. The .22-250 and it is an incredible round. I shoot a Kimber LongMaster VT in .22-250. It is the most accurate combination (rifle /round)I've every owned. If your looking to keep the pelts on anything smaller than coyote, you may want the .223. There isn't much left of varmits.

.220 swift vs. .22-250rem?

if comparing which is better? hands down the swift.

as to which you should get.....that's open for discussion, .22-250 is way popular, commercially available, still very good/fast,

if you handload, I think 9/10 varminters would say .220 swift all the way.

if you dont, then .22-250 is the way to go.

You can buy .220 ammo from the factory, though I think its loaded down and loses the advantage it has over the .22-250, so then why even own it if not going to handload?

It really is a matter of opinion,I just like my swift better. I sold my 22-250 after I had my swift for awhile. The factory ammo is not loaded to the swifts potential,if you look at hornadays sight the swift 40 grain vmax are @ 4200 fps and the 22-250 are @ 4150fps.When I load I can easly get 4500fps from my swift but my rifle likes them a little slower then that.I could never do that with my 250,tried and tried but never could.
