Springfield XD 45 ACP- I shot mine!
#1

Hey guys - I put 300 rounds through my new toy in this last week and I love it!
With a bench rest it shoots pretty darn good at 50 yards...
Most of the time I was off hand at 25 and 10 yards....I'm very happy...
HOWEVER...
I ran into a problem with my dads hand loads...
My dad has a Colt 1911 45 and he has it custom set for target...polished feed, hollowed clip entrance, trigger work....anyway...
My dads semi wad cutters were jamming here and there in my XD....my dad said it was normal and that the bolt feed ramp is probably not liking the sharp edge on the wad cutters...????
It was peeling the sharp edge on the lead bullets and jamming... WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS??
Clips looks good..gun was clean...
All factory ammo round nose FMJ UMC's fired without a hitch..

Might take a lil breaking in time yet. I polished my feed ramp on my XD 40 Tactical one night when I was bored.
The only hiccup I have had with my gun is a few stovepipes when I let my brothers fiance shoot it. She had never fired a handgun before, and was limp wristing it.
I've never shot wadcutters out of my gun either, so it might just be those bullets. I shoot alot of HPs out of mine.

Your dad is spot on. 1911's have a longer, less steep feed ramp. You father's is probably polished smooth as butter too. The glock's and glock-a-likes' ramps are steeper and most likely unpolished. A dremmel tool and some polishing compound could slick up the ramp and you may cure the loading issues. Or you can simply use round nose ammo.

Sounds likethe ammo is the culprit. I have seen it happen to many "stock" 1911's when shooting hollowpoints. Assuming you plan to use the gun for self defense, I would practice with FMJ's and pack some DoubleTap HP's. My Glock 21 has always fed hollowpoints perfectly. The XD should do the same.
