Options have been laid out....
CZ for $599 new out of box, or....
Used M70's around $500, Cabelas, etc....
Distressed Individuals $500 or less, etc....
Abandon Inexpensive and Buy New Retail $800-1000....
Single shots are great for targets and are a cheap way to get "bragging rights." Questionable for dangerous game.
Unwise leap to go from '06 to a .505 in one jump!
Your call,
Good Luck

My Sako TRG S in .375H&H is a pleasure to shoot, everything is just right. (for me atleast) I bought it 6 years ago for less than $500 new but haven't seen them in a while especially at that price.
I have also been impressed with the CZ's. They are well built and have real nice triggers. Some if not all come with scope rings so that would be one thing you would not have to buy.

Have a 375HH, recoil no worse than a 30:06. Put on a muzzle brake. At the range last weekend and tested 7 different loads at 5 shots each.
Definitly need ear protection but I got such a good deal with our new gun registration that I couldn't let it go by. $450.00 for a 1971 Winchester model 70. Thats under $300.00 US. Rifle never fired more than 18 shots before I got it.
The deals are out there just keep your ears and wallet open. Good luck.

JonN - Did you mention getting a 30-30 just to get a rise out of Elkampmaster? Wander over to the Big Game forum, go back a couple weeks. There was a very spirited discussion across a number of posts regarding big game rifles, and the suitability to task of the 30-30. Made for very enjoyable reading for a few days.

Cal,
505's; 375's; 300Win's; 30-06's, 30-30's; Black Powder......
Actually, I think the next step is archery and then sling shots.

My reply is somewhat off topic so bear with me please....
Jon, I can only speak for myself but the very first time I went hunting....I carried a Winchester mod 70 lever action .30-30 open sights. I had asked my boyfriend at the time to "teach" me how to hunt.....I was in my early 30's at the time. I should mention because my late father was a Full bird with the AF and was active that I was taught to be a shooter first.
Needless to say that first hunt.......and there were 10 guys and I hunting the same hollow, roughly my guess would be a about 200-300 acres of private land. My friend said...you just sit right here and wait.....he had only been out of sight for 5 minutes before a spike with 1-11" spike, and 1-7" spike came in.....I watched him come down from the ridge with my binocs....needless to say...one shot, and shell later he dropped where he stood. The story is still told to this day many years later. I loved it!!!
My guess is that EKM has used many rifles to take game and as most of us do has a few favs....I know I do.... All are good.....
You may want to post your muzzleloader question on the black powder forum but....I have a Thompson Renegade that has a .32 barrel, and a .50 barrel to interchange..... I always will use the .50 myself.....It is a matter of personal choice my friend. Good Luck to you with whatever firearm you choose to use
And EKM....no plans for Africa....Alaska when my son is old enough perhaps....but no out of country plans. He just turned 4 but thinks he is a hunting fool already. ....go figure!
And Thank you for the compliment.
