Ruger 10/22 question
I'm wanting to get a 10/22 this year. I was wondering, could I find someplace to buy a reciever and then get me one of those carbon fiber barrel/stock combos from butler creek. And be able to do it cheaper than buying a new gun. My cousin has ffl license and I can get the gun at his cost. The only problem is, can I find a receiver cheap enough, or just buy the new gun. I won't be into competition or nothing like that, just plinking and squirrels. I've always used my brothers or my Dads when squirrel hunting with the dogs, it's time I get my own while I can still get the high capacity magazines!

You would only be able to get a used receiver. Just buy the most basic model, and sell the barrel and stock to recoup some of the new stuff costs.

Take a look over at www.rimfirecentral.com They have a special section for 10-22 stuff. You can find receivers but they are not cheap. A lot of guys that build custom 10-22's will start with a used gun hen scrap the stock and barrel and replace with aftermarket parts.

Shooters Discount has a bare receiver for $85. But it does not have the bolt or trigger group. http://shootersdiscount.com/cart/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=18 or if you have lots of $$$ https://www.volquartsen.com/product/198 or http://www.magnumresearch.com/Expand.asp?ProductCode=SP-1722R-03GunBroker.com sometimes has receivers too.

First off, avoid the Butler Creek tuff, It's cheap for a reason. While you're on RimfireCentral, do some searches on thier stuff, especially the so called "carbon fiber" bbls. If you're serious about building one of these up with accuracy in mind, don't go that route.
Done a bunch of these builds, have 3 midbuild or waiting and 2 more planned. Got any Q's send a PM. Glad to help ifI can.

Shooter's Discount is the one that built my complete rifle. He had all the parts, and he put them together for me. The extended magazine release latch is a great feature. Tom.
