Do any of you use a pistol grip on your shotgun for bird hunting? I read somewhere that this is good for absorbing recoil and doesn't hinder pointing. Just curious if anyone actually has one on their field gun (not self defense).

You can't swig and aim well without a shoulder stock. It might beOK for pointing at standing felons at close range, but doesn't work well with small moving targets.

Just to clarify, I'm talking a pistol grip with a butt stock, not a straight pistol grip. Sorry about the confusion.

Though unconventional, I can't think of how it would hinder wing shooting. You need to keep the elbow of your trigger arm pointed down instead of out though.

I wouldn't want one for turkey hunting. When I'm out in the field I typically walking long distances. The extra weight isn't necessary. Also I've belly crawled across fields and I wouldn't want something else to get caught in the weeds and brush as I drag or push my gun along.
I guess it depends on what you want to do with it.
