The Ruger 10/22 is hard to beat. Buy a rifle and you can buy plenty of aftermarket parts to make it suit your situation

The 10/22 is one of the most dependable and versitle 22's out there. It has more accesories and reputation then any other. i recently had the same question and decided on the 10/22.

Don't over look the 17HM2 either. Built on a 22 stinger round but uses the lighter 17 cal bullets. They shoot faster and flater than a normal 22 lr. Yet they don't do as much damage as the 17HMR rounds.

For a clip fed semi auto the Ruger is pretty decent with a ton of after market for it. I would personally look for a bolt gun like a newer savage or something though.

The browning buckmark carbines are pretty nice as well, but a bit pricey.

I have not even read down below on the other responses...But you can bet they will say the Ruger 10/22...pull out $180 bucks and get yourself one. I have a 30 round bananna clip in mine and I love it,
