I voted that i use something else...

I have used them, and i'd use them again, but i have a load worked up for my drilling using NP's and that's the only load i have used in this gun for many years...

I worked up the load when i was doing a lot of moose and brown bear hunting, so i chose what i thought was the best bullet for that job..

Don't use them anymore. Too fragile. I like an exit hole and don't trust them to penetrate through heavy bone.

A ballistic tip is about as similiar to an an XP3 as Jessica Alba is to Rosy O'donnell

Got a question: Are we lumping all bullets that have a polymer tip in this? You all do realize that "Ballistic Tip" is a product name specifically refering to a bullet sold by Nosler? I personally catergorize "ballistic tips" seperately from ACCUBONDS, Barnes MRX, Hornady Interbond SST....

There is a significant difference between a BT and a Winchester XP3, Accubond, etc.

Holy cow, I didn't catch that XP3 post! That would be a bullet that I am personally not familiar with, and like the others said, it definately isn't a Ballistic Tip.

And no, we aren't lumping all the polymer tips together.

One more time.

Nosler Ballistic Tips ONLY!!!!

Just a FYI. As you know I got rialed up last evening, so I searched Nosler's page and found this:

Posted: Wed Dec 21, 2005 9:22 am Post subject: Impact Velocities for Reliable Expansion

[hr]

Partition:
Minimum Impact Velocity for Reliable Expansion- 1800 fps
Maximum Impact Velocity for Reliable Expansion- N/A

Ballistic Tip:
Minimum Impact Velocity for Reliable Expansion- 1600 fps
Maximum Impact Velocity for Reliable Expansion- 3000 fps

AccuBond:
Minimum Impact Velocity for Reliable Expansion- 1600 fps
Maximum Impact Velocity for Reliable Expansion- N/A
Here's the Link: http://www.noslerreloading.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1347

Now I ask you this: Why would Nosler publish a "Maximum Impact Velocity for Reliable Expansion" for the Ballistic tip while the Accubond and Partition it is listed as Not Applicable? I personally Hypothesize that its because the BT has been known to experience failures at high impact velocities. Thats not to say that other bullets aren't prone to failures at high impact velocities, because they are. Just food forthought.

Now I ask you to consider this:

Assumeyou Load a 280 rem with 140g BT's to a muzzle velocity of approx 3100 fps. Further assume that you take a shot at a doe at less than 50 yards.

Is itpossible that the impact velocity was at least 3000 FPS? If so, could you reasonably assume that you may not "experience Reliable Expansion"?

Now, What is UNreliable Expansion? Could that include Violent Over Expansion? Is it possible that given these circumstance that a broadside shot could produce a Violent Failure of the bullet?

If you would indulge me,Lets take it a step futher in our assumptions: Lets say that in these same circumstances that the bullet, by some freak stroke of cosmic luck, impacted directly into a rib bone. Now, given these assumptions is it within the realm of possibility that a Violent over expansion could occur?
